2020 Winter Tax Bill
Treasurer Rachel Frantom has fielded many questions regarding winter tax bills and gives a brief description of the changes below:
All Residents:
At the November election, TWO Fire Department Millage requests were passed by voters.
The Fire Department Operating Millage was renewed for 5 years and the Fire Department Equipment Millage is new and will be for 10 years.
Grand Haven Schools:
Loutit Library has two millages that we collect for them. In the past, their operating millage was collected on the summer bill and the debt millage was collected on the winter bill. Starting in 2020, they requested no collection in the summer, and put both millages on the winter bill.
West Ottawa Schools:
West Ottawa did not have an election in May, so the Operating Millage Renewal and Sinking Fund Millage were not collected on the summer tax bill. Both millage renewals were placed on the August ballot and passed by voters, making them collectable on the winter tax bills. This change was due to COVID-19 and should return to the summer collection in 2021.
